UConn women clip Crimson, stay unbeaten
ALLSTON, Mass. -- Two goals from senior Rachel Hill led the No. 10 UConn women’s team to a 3-1 win over Harvard in a non-conference match at Jordan Field Friday night.
UConn (3-0) took a 1-0 lead as senior Maddie Damm scored her first goal of the season, finishing to the top right corner from 25 yards in the eighth minute off an assist from redshirt senior Stephanie Ribeiro.
The Crimson, playing its season-opener, challenged, both teams totaling seven shots in the opening half.
Hill extended the lead in the 36th minute, chipping a shot over Lizzie Durack off a Danielle Gottwik assist, moving into fifth in UConn history with 48 career goals.
Harvard outshot UConn, 14-10, and had 14-1 edge in corner kicks.
Rachel Garcia cut the Crimson deficit in the 66th minute, the first goal UConn had surrendered this season, snapping a 245-minute shutout streak.
Hill scored in the 79th minute on the rebound of Ribeiro shot.
Senior Emily Armstrong recorded three saves.
