UConn men run past Rhode Island Rams
KINGSTON, R.I. -- Sophomore forward Abdou Mbacke Thiam notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season to propel the UConn men's team to a 2-1 victory over Rhode Island at the URI Soccer Complex Wednesday night.
Connecticut (5-3-0) won for the first time on the road this season, its 12th successive victory over the Rams (3-4-1). UConn has a 10-0-2 record when Thiam scores.
Thiam scored in the 14th minute, taking a pass from Alex Sanchez and finishing to the bottom left corner of the net from 12 yards, his 16th goal in 27 matches, and Sanchezí first assist of the season.
In the 79th minute, senior tri-captain Jake Nerwinski cut into the penalty area before finishing into the far corner of the net for his second goal of the year. The Rams scored in the 84th minute.
