Thiam goal the difference -- again -- for UConn Huskies

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The UConn menís team topped Providence, 1-0, at Anderson Stadium Wednesday night, extending its winning streak to four straight games.

Connecticut (7-3-0) striker Abdou Mbacke Thiam scored in the 77th minute, his team-leading seventh goal of the season and fifth in the last four matches. The Huskies improved to 12-0-2 when Thiam scores.

UConn improved to 33-6-2 against the Friars (4-5-0) in a series dating to 1973.

The Huskies threatened in the seventh minute, Kwame Awuah missing inches wide right from 19 yards. In the 17th minute, Alex Sanchez redirection of a Dylan Greenberg cross was saved. In the 61st minute Thiam fired high off a feed from freshman Munir Saleh.
