WOMEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UConn Huskies' Stephanie Ribeiro
There were questions about Stephanie Ribeiroís ability to come back after an injury caused her to miss UConnís 2014 season. But Ribeiro proved to be strong enough to produce seven goals and eight assists, the Huskies going 19-4-0 and advancing to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
This season, Ribeiro is going even stronger. Ribeiro, the New England Soccer News Women's Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3, leads NCAA Division 1 in scoring with 12 goals and game-winning goals with seven after 11 games. Ribeiro, who has scored eight goals in the last five games, has teamed with Rachel Hill to spark the Husky attack. Both Hill and Ribeiro scored twice in victories over Tulsa (4-2) Thursday and Memphis (4-1) Sunday, UConnís fourth and fifth successive victories.
