UConn men win seventh straight

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Abdou Mbacke Thiamís 28th-minute goal gave the UConn menís team a 1-0 victory over Yale in a non-conference match at Reese Stadium Tuesday night.

UConn (10-3-0) extended its streaks to seven wins, five shutouts and 456 shutout minutes.

The Huskies have an all-time record of 40-26-4 against the Bulldogs (1-5-0) in a series dating to 1935.

Thiam scored his ninth goal of the season off passes from Alex Sanchez and Niko Petridis, upping UConn's record to 14-0-2 over the last two seasons when he scores a goal.

Redshirt junior Scott Levene registered his seventh shutout, making one save, and the Huskies outshot Yale, 10-3.

In the 15th minute, Thiamís left-footer was blocked. Two minutes later, Levene blocked a shot by Lucas Kirby, then pounced on the ball. Four minutes into the second half, Husky centerback Simen Olafsen fired a 30-yarder that curled wide right. Senior tri-captain Kwame Awuah had a chance in the 67th minute, firing a 18-yarder that was blocked.
