UConn men's streak snapped before 5,100 crowd

STORRS, Conn. -- The No. 13/24 UConn menís teamís seven-match winning streak was snapped as the Huskies fell, 1-0, to South Florida in an American Athletic Conference match before a 5,100 sellout crowd at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium Saturday night.

Connecticut (10-4-0 overall, 3-1-0 conference) fell to 11-3-3 all-time against the Bulls (6-6-2, 3-1-0), who broke the deadlock as Melvin Becket tallied his fourth goal of the season, off a Ricardo Gomez free kick in the 22nd minute.

Both UConn redshirt junior Scott Levene and Spasoj Stefanovic had one save.

UConn threatened early. In the 10th minute, sophomore defender Simen Olafsen send a long ball on the left to Dylan Greenberg, whose cross was blocked. The matchís first shot came on a 16th-minute Kwame Awuah free kick, a 22-yarder off the side netting. In the 38th minute, midfielder an Alex Sanchez shot was cleared off the line for a corner kick.

The Huskies continued to attack, Awuah finding Abdou Mbacke Thiam, whose close-range shot was pushed over the crossbar. In the 65th minute, freshman Niko Petridis collected a rebound and sent right-footer that wide of the near post. In the 68th minute, Sebastian Bremsí in-swinging corner bounced near the goal before being cleared.
