WOMEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UConn Huskies' forward Stephanie Ribeiro
The UConn Huskies are counting on the Rachel Hill-Stephanie Ribeiro forward combination to help the team match or surpass last seasonís 19-4-1 record and third-round advancement in the NCAA tournament.
So far, everything is on pace, mostly thanks to Ribeiroís exceptional production. Ribeiro led the way as the Huskies upped their unbeaten streak to nine games in defeating UCF (3-0) and USF (3-1) last week, scoring three goals and assisting on two. Ribeiro, the New England Soccer News Women's Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 17, has 15 goals, tied with Ashley Hatch (BYU) and Alexis Palafis (Central Michigan) for the NCAA Division 1 lead and also leads with eight game-winners and 2.56 points per game.
Ribeiro is one goal shy of the 16 goals she totaled in her first three UConn seasons, redshirting while injured in 2014.
