UConn women advance to AAC final

STORRS, Conn. -- Rachel Hill and Stephanie Ribeiro scored as the UConn women’s team took a 2-0 win over South Florida in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium Friday night.

The Huskies (17-2-1), who will meet SMU in the championship match at 2 p.m. Sunday, improved their streaks to 13 consecutive games unbeaten and nine straight home wins. UConn has compiled seven successive victories since playing the Mustangs to a 0-0 draw in Dallas last month.

Hill scored her 14th goal of the season and 59th career goal in the 38th minute and Ribeiro evaded three defenders to convert her NCAA Division 1-leading 20th goal in the 50th minute. The Huskies lost freshman Kristen Vinciguerra to a 73rd-minute red card, and Emily Armstrong earned her career-high 10th shutout.
