UConn Huskies eliminated in NCAA second round

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The UConn Huskies squandered a first-minute lead in falling, 4-1, to Auburn in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Championship at Donald R. Dizney Stadium Friday.

The Huskies (19-3-1), who had streaks of 14 games unbeaten and nine successive victories snapped, pulled ahead as Maddie Dunn converted a 22-yarder off a Stephanie Ribeiro assist 55 seconds in. Kristen Dodson equalized in the fifth minute, then Auburn (16-6-0) took a 3-1 halftime lead on goals by Gianna Montini (40th minute) and Brooke Ramsier (42nd). Bri Folds added a 71st-minute goal.

UConn rallied in the second half, Ribeiro missing with a header off a Hill cross in the 53rd minute, Hill missing wide from distance in the 63rd minute, Kristen Vinciguerra missing a long shot, Heidi Druhl misfiring in the 88th minute.
