UMass women shut out by South Florida
TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Massachusetts women’s team surrendered two second-half penalty kicks in falling, 3-0, to the No. 23 South Florida Bulls in a non-conference match Sunday.
Evelyne Viens scored two goals as USF scored its goals in a seven-minute span.
In the first half, the Minutewomen (1-2-0) led in shots, 8-6.
Trudi Carter scored the first penalty kick in the 55th minute. The Minutewomen retaliated with three corner kicks and a shot that was saved.
Nearly six minutes later, USF (4-0-0) pulled ahead by two goals as Viens scored on an assist from Leticia Skeete. In the 62nd minute, Viens scored on a penalty kick.
South Florida finished with a 16-13 shots advantage Cassidy Babin made five saves for the Minutewomen. Kat Elliott made six saves in 75 minutes before being replaced by Haley Johnson.
