UMass men held by St. Peter's
AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass men's team and Saint Peter's battled to a 1-1 draw in the Minutemen's home-opener at Rudd Field Saturday.
Junior Alex DeSantis scored for the Minutemen (0-2-1) in the 19th minute. Saint Peter's (0-2-1) scored on Luke Fairlamb’s penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
DeSantis' first goal of the season came on a free kick from 30 yards. The shot went through traffic, tucking inside the left post.
Fairlamb fired his penalty to right of a diving Jorge Becerra inside the right post.
Neither side was able to record a shot in the first overtime. The Peacocks had chances in the second overtime, but the defense was able to block three and Becerra made a save on the fourth.
UMass held a 16-15 edge in shots, taking 13 in the first half..
Becerra made three saves, Jamie Cleland made five.
