Minutemen mauled by Wildcats

AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass men's team squandered a second-half lead in falling, 4-1, to New Hampshire at Rudd Field Tuesday.

UMass (0-3-1) sophomore Samuel Asamoah scored the opening goal off a low cross from junior Alex DeSantis in the 48th minute. The Wildcats (4-0-0), who outshot the Minutemen, 13-1, in the opening half, retaliated on Jackson Dickson’s goal 35 seconds later.

In the 61st minute, Chris Arling scored after Jorge Becerra lost possession after a collision just outside the goal area. Three minutes later, Alex Valencia pushed the lead to 3-1 when he crashed the near post to put home a rebound after Becerra saved a Ben Gleditsch shot. William Picoux closed the scoring in the 70th minute.

The match was delayed in the 77th minute for 25 minutes after a Wildcat player was injured.
