Minutemen rally falls short at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The UMass men's team rallied late in the first half but could not overcome a three-goal deficit in falling, 3-2, to No. 20-ranked Vermont at Virtue Field Wednesday night.

Vermont (8-1-0) scored three goals in the first 24 minutes. In the fifth minute, Charlie DeFeo poked home from the goal area off a throw-in. Six minutes later, Brian Wright ran on to Bernard Yeboah pass for a 2-0 advantage. Vermont pushed the lead to 3-0 as Stefan Lamanna scored in the 24th minute.

UMass (1-6-1) rallied as Andrew Barrowman and Mark Dunphy scored their first collegiate goals. Barrowman converted in the 26th minute and Dunphy headed in an Alex DeSantis corner.
