UMass women edged by George Mason
AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass womenís team snapped a four-game scoreless streak, but surrendered a 107th-minute goal in falling, 2-1, in extra time to George Mason in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at Rudd Field Thursday.
Daniela Alvarezí 40-yard free kick past Kirsten Glad gave UMass (2-7-1 overall, 0-3-0 A-10) the lead in the 52nd minute, snapping the teamís 481-minute scoreless streak.
Alex Myers sent a 69th-minute free kick off Cassidy Babinís hands to tie the score. UMass, which has a six-game winless streak, had a chance to regain the lead as Natalie Perrusault advanced on the right, her shot inside the near post cleared off the line by Kaila Williams.
UMassí Gabriela Kenyon broke through to nearly decide the match, shooting high, in the first overtime. The Rams (9-3-0, 3-0-0) scored the winner as Emily Littell converted the rebound off a Myers shot, Babin (eight saves) making the initial stop.
