UMass Minutemen edged by Explorers

PHILADELPHIA -- The UMass menís team had a three-game winning streak snapped in falling to third place in the Atlantic 10 Conference standings with a 1-0 loss to La Salle in both teamsí regular-season finale at McCarthy Stadium Saturday.

The Minutemen (7-8-3 overall, 4-2-2 A-10) were overtaken by the Explorers (10-7-1, 5-3-0) in the standings but have qualified for the tournament two successive seasons for the first time since 2007 and í08.

Matt Robinson scored his third goal of the season off a Zach Rutherford throw-in in the 32nd minute.

The Minutemen's best chance came on a 67th-minute header by Christian Labeck off a corner kick, stopped by Mike Kirk (six saves). The Explorers outshot UMass, 21-8, and Jorge Becerra tied his career high with nine saves.
