Vermont Catamounts blast LIU Brooklyn
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Brian Wright scored a goal and added two assists as Vermont took a 3-0 victory over reigning NEC champion LIU Brooklyn 3-0 to win the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic Sunday.
Wright and Bernard Yeboah, who scored his sixth goal of the season, were named co-MVPs as the Catamounts (4-0-0) won twice (6-0 goal differential) in the tournament.
"The second half was important for us to lift and operate at another level," Vermont coach Jesse Cormier said. "Our energy was the difference today. Energy to press, energy to show, concentrated energy to attack and have the necessary quality to succeed against a very good team."
LIU Brooklyn (2-2) threatened in the first half, Aron Runarsson making two saves.
Yeboah scored past Tyler Keys in the 59th minute, finishing a Wright layoff off a through ball from Stefan Lamanna.
Charlie DeFeo headed in a Wright chip from the goal area for the second goal.
In the 76th minute, Wright scored from close range.
