Catamount women claw Bulldogs

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Freshman Julia Smith notched two goals to lift the Vermont Catamounts women’s team to a 2-1 win over Yale at Virtue Field Sunday.

Smith scored in the fourth minute off an Alex Jenkins through ball. Yale (3-2-2) attempted to capitalize on a tail wind in the opening half, but the Bulldogs were thwarted by two Coco Speckmaier saves. Vermont (3-2-1) added a 76th-minute goal by Smith, her team-leading fourth of the season, a one-timer off a Casey Garfinkel cross.

In the 80th minute, Aerial Chavarin went in alone to score past Speckmaier off a Michelle Alozie through ball.
