Vermont men halted by Hartford

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Vermont menís team lost for the third successive game, the Catamounts falling, 1-0, to Hartford in an America East Conference match at Virtue Field Saturday night.

The Catamounts (9-5-1 overall, 1-3-0 conference) outshot the Hawks (5-6-3, 1-1-2), 20-8.

Vermont threatened early, a fifth-minute Arthur Bacquet through ball setting up Brian Wright, whose chip was deflected away by Jimmy Slayton (10 saves).

Hartford broke the deadlock off an 83rd-minute throw-in, Quenten Swift one-timing a clearance into the bottom left corner of the net for his second goal of the year.

The Hawks nearly scored three minutes later, freshman midfielder Gael Kisombe Samunaís close-range shot saved by Eamon Kitson.

The Catamounts had chances late. In the 88th minute, Elliot Makerís low shot was saved. A minute later, Shane Haley sent a drive over a diving Slayton and inches high. Then, Mikel Kabala missed with a left-footer to the near post. In the final seconds, Kitson advanced into the attack, heading wide off a corner kick.
