Catamount women stop Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Vermont women’s team became the first No. 6 seed to eliminate a third seed since 2012 in the America East Conference quarterfinals, taking a penalty kick win over Stony Brook after playing to a 0-0 draw Thursday night.

The Catamounts (7-7-4), who visit Hartford Sunday in their second straight semifinal appearance and third all-time, took a 3-1 decision in penalties. Caitie Green converted the deciding goal and Coco Speckmaier saved two Stony Brook (9-8-3) shots in penalties.
