Vermont Catamount men best Bearcats

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Brian Wright scored twice as the Vermont menís team took a 2-1 extra time win over Binghamton in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament at Virtue Field Saturday.

Wrightís 109th-minute goal qualified the Catamounts (13-5-1) for their 15th semifinal appearance, a Wednesday visit to Albany.

The third-seeded Catamounts threatened off an Aron Runarsson (nine saves) goal kick, Stefan Lamanna finding Bernard Yeboah, whose cross to Wright rolled over the goalline in the 10th minute. Runarsson made a save 10 minutes later, leaping to stop Harrison Weilbacherís close-range shot. Lamanna then set up Wright, who shot just wide.

Binghamton (7-6-6) took the lead as Nikkos Psarras one-timed an Isiah Barrett pass in the 67th minute for his fifth goal of the season.

Vermont retaliated as a Yeboah header went wide off a corner and a 70th-minute Lamanna shot was stopped by a diving Alejandro Cubillo (11 saves).

Yeboah equalized in the 87th minute, bending in a left-footer to the top left corner of the net off a Jon Arnar Barūdal through ball. Yeboah broke the deadlock on the rebound of a Shane Haley shot to the far post as Cubillo made a diving stop to his right for his 11th goal of the season as Vermont equaled the school record for wins in a season set by the 1989 and 2000 teams.
