New Thanksgiving tradition: turkey, football and futbol

By Michael Lewis Editor

For as long as I know, Thanksgiving tradition has been about family, turkey and some football.

Well, now we can add another tradition to the list: family, turkey, football and some futbol.

It could be because of this year's early Thanksgiving, a seemingly forever expanding soccer schedule, but futbol fans won't have to watch just football this Turkey Day.

The action kicks off at noon ET (just after the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade ends) with Rubin Kazan playing host to Inter Milan in the UEFA Europa League live on Fox Soccer Plus at noon ET.

A little later, Tottenham and U.S. international forward Clint Dempsey visit Lazio in Europa League action at 1 p.m. ET. You can catch the action live on Fox Soccer.

Right after that is Liverpool hosting Young Boys in another Europa encounter live at 3:05 ET on Fox, again on Fox. Or you can watch Maritomo at Newcastle United in

And by then, if you haven't had your fill of Turkey or football or futbol, there is Napoli playing at AIK in the Europa League on delay at 5 p.m. ET on Fox or Marseille-Fenerbache, also on delay at 5 p.m. ET, on Fox Soccer Plus.

During evening, Fox Deportes will have a pair of Copa Sudamericana matches on live at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET.

And that's not to forget ESPN Deportes, which also will have Rubin Kazan-Inter live at noon plus the addition of Atletico Madrid and Roberto Falcao against Hapoel Tel Aviv live at 3:055 p.m. ET before a pair of Copa Sudamaericana confrontations live at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET.

Whew! Is that enough futbol for you?

If that is too much, there is always the American gridiron variety as well.

Now, I have to admit. I will not be watching every soccer game today. I definitely will watch Dempsey and the Spurs match. But this is not a day to be glued to the TV set all the time, not with friends and family around and some turkey and other yummy things to eat.

But slowly, but surely, the traditions of Thanksgiving are changing, and that includes some futbol with football.

Hope you and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!
