MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

July 5, 2016
MLS WEDNESDAY
A look at the upcoming game

New York City FC (7-5-6, 27 pts) @ New England Revolution (4-6-7, 19 pts), 7:30 p.m. ET (CSN-NE)
Three straight victories the last two by shutout after a five-game winless streak, which included elimination from the U.S. Open Cup by the NASL's New York Cosmos -- has moved NYC to the top of the Eastern Conference. Now that he's finally in the lineup, Frank Lampard has been leading the way with two goals and an assist. But his fellow uber teammates also have been noteworthy: David Villa (two goals), and Andrea Pirlo (one goal, one assist). New England has been sliding the other direction, losing two straight, both away, sandwiched around a 3-2 win over the same Cosmos in the Open Cup. The last loss, 3-2 against Montreal on Saturday, came after New England took a 2-0 lead by the 33rd minute. The Revs appear to be getting some dividend out of their trade for Kei Kamara, with the former Crew forward accounting for three goals in two games.
