Toronto FC's Giovinco leads way

Forward Sebastian Giovinco of MLS Cup finalist Toronto FC heads the Best XI team, the league announced Monday.

Giovinco, the MLS most valuable player last season, had 17 goals and 15 assists during the regular season and has added four goals in the playoffs. Giovinco, a former Juventus and Italy national teamer, led MLS with 22 goals last season.

MVP candidates Sacha Kljestan and Bradley Wright-Phillips, the league’s leading scorer with 24 goals, and NYC FC’s David Villa were also named to the team.

• Goalkeeper: Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union)
• Defenders: Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Axel Sjoberg (Colorado Rapids), Jelle Van Damme (LA Galaxy)
• Midfielders: Mauro Diaz (FC Dallas), Giovani dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls), Ignacio Piatti (Montreal Impact)
• Forwards: Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), David Villa (New York City FC), Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls)
