Two years after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Major League Soccer commissioner says he is cancer free.
"My health is great," Garber said at his state of the league address at the Intercontinental Hotel Friday afternoon. "I am a year cancer free.
"So I had a two-year battle that I don't wish on anybody. You come out on a positive end of an experience like that and I believe that you're better. That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger and I'm still here. So Iím stronger, fitter and as energized as ever. So, I feel great."
Garber, 58, was diagnosed with cancer in April 2014. He underwent several comprehensive tests and the cancer has not spread. His doctors at the time expected that Garber would have a full recovery and he has done that.
He was treated at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City.
