Eddies extend home streak

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton registered their sixth consecutive win at Clarke Field with a 1-0 victory over Canadian rival Ottawa Fury FC on Sunday afternoon.

Edmonton improves to 7-3-3, 24 pts overall (Fall: 2-0-1, 4 pts), while the Fury drop to 2-8-3, 9 pts (0-3-0, 0 pts).

Nik Ledgerwood scored his first goal as an Eddie, while goalkeeper Matt VanOekel earned his league-leading sixth clean sheet of the NASL season. The Eddies were forced to play a man down for a half hour after defender Pape Diakite was shown a red card for two cautions in the second-half.

VanOekel made two strong saves in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. VanOekel made a stop on an Eddie Edward header. Shortly after, midfielder Carl Haworth curled a free kick from outside the box, but VanOekel was there once again to dive across his net and make a crucial save.

The Eddies took the lead on 82 minutes after second half substitute Sainey Nyassi carried the ball down the right wing. The winger played a pass a low pass to Ledgerwood who met the ball with a first time strike .
