Armada advances, Loons snap streak

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Armada improved its unbeaten streak to three games and moved into ninth place in the NASL Fall Season standings with a 1-1 tie with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Community First Park Wednesday night.
Jose Angulo gave Fort Lauderdale (2-5-2, 8 points) the lead in 20th minute and Zach Steinberger tied the score in the 42nd minute of a Coastal Cup match, televised live nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
Forward Maicon Santos, who had five goals against Jacksonville in two years of play, was not in the starting lineup for Strikers coach and general manager Caio Zanardi.
Jacksonville (2-5-3, 9 points) interim coach Mark Lowry was going after his second win in a row after taking over from Tony Meola.
The Strikers scored on its first shot on target on a counterattack, Adrianinho sending a through ball that went off a defender, Angulo firing a left-footer from 24 yards past Miguel Gallardo to the far post for his fourth goal of the year.
The Armada tied the match in the 42nd minute as Pascal Millien found Steinberger in the penalty area, Steinberger sending a right-footer shot from 12 yards into the near corner for his second goal since being acquired on loan from the Houston Dynamo of MLS.

Minnesota United ended a four-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies at NSC Stadium Wednesday night.
Ben Speas put the Loons (4-2-3, 14 points) in front in the 18th minute, intercepting a pass from Walter Ramirez and powering a shot past Matt Pickens.
Speas was involved in setting up Christian Ramirez’ 62nd-minute goal. Speas slotted a cross for a sliding Aaron Pitchkolan to knock on to Ramirez, who finished into an empty net for league-leading 13th goal in the Combined season.
Minnesota’s Jack Blake was red-card for a foul against Joe Cole in the 82nd minute.
