Armada get a road win, Miami-Tampa Bay tie


MIAMI FC 1, TAMPA BAY ROWDIES 1
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rowdies took a first half lead, but Miami FC’s Rhett Bernstein equalized in the 74th minute as the teams played to a 1-1 tie at in front of 6,912 Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night.

The tie puts the Rowdies at 5-6-5, 20 pts for the Fall season and 9-8-9, 36 pts overall. Miami is 8-4-5, 29 pts in second place behind New York in the fall standings and, 9-9-9, 36 pts overall.

After an evenly-matched opening half hour, Eric Avila’s fourth goal of the season put the Rowdies ahead.

Georgi Hristov was fed the ball on the left side of the penalty area and passed it across the top of the 18-yard box to Avila cutting in from the right. Avila took a few touches to set himself up for the shot and then ripped a left-footed shot past Miami FC goalkeeper Daniel Vega for a 1-0 lead.

In the 71st minute, a chaotic moment in the Rowdies’ 6-yard box saw Tampa Bay fail to clear the ball and eventually Miami’s Rhett Bernstein made the Rowdies pay, poking it past Rowdies goalkeeper Matt Pickens from a few yards out to tie the match.

JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC 1, MINNESOTA UNITED 1
BLAINE, Minn. – Matt Bahner scored a late goal to give the Jacksonville Armada a 1-0 win over Minnesota United at NSC Stadium Saturday night.

The road win is only the second in club history for the two-year old Armada, who improve to 3-7-7, 16 pts (Fall) and 4-12-11, 23 pts overall. Minnesota falls to 5-7-5, 20 pts Fall /10-11-6, 36 pts overall.

Jacksonville took the lead after Minnesota conceded a free kick near the sideline. Armada forward Zach Steinberger whipped a corner kick into the box which was headed down toward Bahner, who chested, turned and slotted home the decisive goal past goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock in the 88th minute.
