Miami FC, Rowdies play to draw, remain in contention
MIAMI FC 2, TAMPA BAY ROWDIES 2
MIAMI -- Miami FC squandered a two-goal advantage in playing to a 2-2 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies at FIU Stadium Friday night.
Both teams remained in contention for the final NASL playoff spot, the Rowdies (5-7-7, 22 points Fall/9-9-11, 38 points Combined) moving into a tie with Minnesota and Rayo OKC for fourth place and Miami FC (8-5-6, 30 points/9-10-10, 37 points) tying Carolina for seventh place in the Combined Standings.
Miami FC’s Jamie Chavez opened the scoring with a spectacular volley over Matt Pickens off a Blake Smith cross in the 16th minute.
Kwadwo Poku scored off a Chavez pass in the 21st minute.
In the 27th minute, the Rowdies cut the deficit as leading scorer Georgi Hristov headed in an Eric Avila cross for his 10th goal of the year. In the 66th minute, Juan Guerra equalized with his first goal of the season, taking a Joe Cole feed and finishing from just inside the penalty area past Daniel Vega.
