BCFC signs Brazilian defender Paulo Henrique

Boston City FC has signed former Santos and Atlético Goianese defender Paulo Henrique, the NPSL team announced Wednesday.

Henrique, 33, was a teammate of Barcelona’s Neymar and Sevilla’s Paulo Henrique Ganso with Santos in 2009, playing in the Campeonato Brasileiro, Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brazil, scoring one goal.

Paulo Henrique Silva Rodrigues played in Brazil’s Série A for six years, Série B for two years, and in the Copa Sulamericana. Henrique played for Desportiva Juazeirense last year; Rio Verde EC in 2015; Atlético Goianese from 2010-14; Santos 2009-10; Goiás EC; and Vitoria ES.

"While we have had a very strong defense, to be able to bring in a player of Paulo's quality and play him alongside our NPSL all-team defender Gabriel De Souza is fantastic," Boston City coach Palhinha said. "With Paulo's experience at the very highest level in Brazil, he will be a great asset when we kick off the new season."

The Boston City back line includes Henrique, De Souza, new signings Jadson Leite and Douglass Bessa, plus Ralph Angrand and Filipe Dutra.
