January 20, 2017 RETURNING RIGHT BACK Boston City FC re-signs Guilherme De Souza
Defender Guilherme De Souza has re-signed with Boston City FC, the team announced Friday.
De Souza, 22, born in Cambridge, attended Everett High School, and played at UMass Lowell. De Souza became a starter at right back seven matches into Boston City’s inaugural season as the team went on a nine-match unbeaten run. De Souza scored on a breakaway in a 3-2 away win over Greater Lowell United in the penultimate match of the NPSL regular season.
“The opportunity for growth as a player and how much you can develop here was a main reason for me wanting to return,” De Souza said. “The club is always looking to expand and is the new big club in Boston, so I am excited to be a part of that.
“There will be a lot of tough competition for places, but that is positive because it means there is no room to take a practice off, or take days off, or you’ll lose your place. I can learn a lot from the new experienced guys who have signed and that can only help me get better.”
“Guilherme brought an attacking element to our right side last season and was as dangerous going forward as he was solid defending,” BCFC coach Palhinha said. “He is a young local player who will continue to develop and contribute to our team this season.”
