February 16, 2017 CENTRAL PAIRING Defender Marcelo Cunha returning to Boston City FC
Boston City FC has signed defender Marcelo Cunha, the team announced Thursday.
Cunha, who played at Marlborough High School and UMass Boston, paired with Gabriel De Souza in BCFC’s central defense last season, appearing in all but one match (suspension). Cunha was one of four Lions to convert a penalty kick in the shootout loss to Legacy 76 in the NPSL playoffs.
“We had a great year and Palhinha is a great coach and I wanted to build off that and the friendships that I made on the team,” Cunha said. “It’s always good to come back to a team that wants you to play for them.
“The competition is going to be tough. We had a short bench last year, but with some big signings and additions, we’re going to have more competition to stay on the field. It should make practice fun.
“I’ve played up and down the field and at left back and I can play up top. Basically anywhere you put me I’ll do my job.”
