Reign end skid, Thorns stay unbeaten

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Christen Press scored in the 61st minute to lift the Chicago Red Stars to a 1--1 draw with the Portland Thorns at Toyota Park on Sunday.
While Chicago (4-1-3, 14pts) was able to extend its current unbeaten run to seven games, Portland (3-0-5, 14pts) remains undefeated .
The Thorns grabbed the lead in 24th minute, courtesy of Christine Sinclair opening her 2016 account. Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher tried to clear a backpass from Samantha Johnson that bounced off Sincaliur and into the net.
The Red Stars equalizer came in the 61st minute, substitute Alyssa Mautz chested the ball down and into the path of Press, who saw her first-time hit touch off the fingertips of the fully extended Portland netminder Adriana Franch and bounce off the underside off the crossbar. Despite the Thorns FC goalkeeper’s best efforts to hustle back and scrape the ball out of danger, she was unable to do so before it crossed the line.

SEATTLE REIGN 1, HOUSTON DASH 0
SEATTLE – A second-half goal from Havana Solaun gave Seattle Reign FC a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dash Sunday in front of 4,682 fans at Memorial Stadium.
The game-winning goal came in the 66th minute when a four-pass sequence drew Dash defenders to Beverly Yanez. The forward found Solaun outside the 18-yard box and her 25-yard shot beat Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams at the far post. Solaun’s goal was the first of her NWSL career in her first start.
The Reign, who ended a four game winless skid, improve to 3-3-2, 11 points, while the Dash fall to 2-4-1, 7 pts.
