KC Blanks Dash, Reign-Sky Blue go scoreless

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sky Blue FC played Seattle Reign FC to a scoreless draw before 1,547 at Yurcak Field Sunday night.

Sky Blue (2-3-4, 10 points)almost scored in the 12th minute as midfielder Kelly Conheeney played Taylor Lytle into the middle of the penalty area. Lytle hammered a left-footed shot that bounded off the crossbar. The ball deflected back to Lytle, who made another attempt on goal but goalkeeper Hope Solo saved.

Seattle (3-3-3, 12 pts) saw a similar situation in the 17th minute. Midfielder Kim Little moved from the left flank with the ball into the area, finding Jessica Fishlock, who struck a hard shot off the crossbar. The ball bounced in front of the goal until defender Kristin Grubka played Erica Skroski for the clearance.

The hosts almost took the lead in the 54th minute when Skroski danced through two defenders before playing English international Leah Galton in the left corner of the area. Galton went a defender before rifling a shot on frame that forced Solo to make a diving save. Forward Tasha Kai collected the deflection, but her ensuing shot attempt was high.

FC KANSAS CITY 1, HOUSTON DASH 0
HOUSTON --Becky Sauerbrunn scored in the 80th minute to give FC Kansas City a 1-0 win over the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium Sunday night.

The opportunity was set up by a corner kick from fellow U.S. Women’s National Team player Heather O’Reilly and a series of headers that kept it alive. Sauerbrunn finally buried it into the back of the net for her second career NWSL goal.

It was the Blues’ second victory in three games and it extended a three-game unbeaten streak for the two-time defending champions. They are now 2-4-3.

It was the Dash’s fourth consecutive 1-0 loss as they drop to 2-5-1, 7pts.. Houston has not scored since May 7.
