Kawasumi brace leads Reign
WASHINGTON SPIRIT 2, FC KANSAS CITY 0
BOYDS, Md. -- The Washington Spirit rallied in the second half for 2-0 win over FC Kansas City at the Maryland SoccerPlex Saturday night.
Substitutes Francisca Ordega and Cheyna Williams sparked the Spirit (6-2-2, 20 points), Ordega scoring in the 79th minute and midfielder Tori Huster converting in the 85th minute.
FC Kansas City (2-5-4, 10 points) threatened in the 54th minute, Shea Groom heading off the bar.
Ordega, a 59th-minute substitution for Katie Stengel, finished past a diving Nicole Barnhart into the lower left corner of the net off the rebound of a Joanna Lohman shot.
Huster scored on a power volley into the top of the net off a deflection after Christine Nairn‘s lofted corner kick went to Lohman, whose shot beat Barnhart.

PORTLAND THORNS 2, SKY BLUE FC 1
PORTLAND, Ore. – Nadia Nadim set up the Portland Thorns first goal, and scored the game winner on a penalty kick in a 2-1 win over Sky Blue FC at Providence Park Saturday night.
Sky Blue FC (3-4-4, 13 points) got out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, when Taylor Lytle chipped a ball to Tasha Kai who was able to one-time it with her right foot to give Sky Blue FC a 1-0 advantage.
Portland (7-0-5, 26 points) found the equalizer in the 39th minute. On the scoring play, Nadia Nadim sent a corner kick into the area by the near post, where a charging Dagny Brynjarsdottir was able to go high and head it into the back of the net.
In the 61st minute, a whistle was blown on Sky Blue FC defender Erin Simon for taking down Thorns forward Hayley Raso from behind as she entered the 18-yard box, which granted Portland a penalty kick. Taking the ensuing try was Nadim, who was able to strike it into the left-side netting to make it 2-1 in favor of the hosts.
SEATTLE REIGN 2, BOSTON BREAKERS 0
SEATTLE -- Nahomi Kawasumi scored both goals to lead the Seattle Reign to a 2-0 win over the Boston Breakers at Memorial Stadium Saturday night.
The loss extended the Breakers’ winless streak to five games.
Seattle (4-3-4, 16pts) went ahead in the 14th minute as Japan international Nahomi Kawasumi finished a cross in front for the first of her two goals.
The Breakers nearly leveled in the 55th minute, Eunice Beckmann turning in the penalty area, her left-footer deflected for a corner.
In the 62nd minute, Kawasumi scored from just inside the penalty area, just over Jami Kranich, who matched her season high five saves.
