Nairn leads Spirit over Dash

HOUSTON – Christine Nairn scored two goals to lead the Washington Spirt to a 2-1 win over the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium.
For the Dash, loss snapped a season-high three game unbeaten streak that began on July 16 with a 3-0 victory over the Portland Thorns.
The first goal of the game came in the 30th minute when Nairn converted a penalty kick. The Spirit were awarded the spot kick after Cami Privett committed a foul on Cheyna Williams inside the box.
Nairn doubled her tally in the 63rd minute after she won the ball near midfield and caught Dash goalkeeper Bianca Henninger off her line. The midfielder chipped a ball to the far post from 35 yards for the game-winning goal.
Kealia Ohai scored her fourth goal of the season in the 90th minute. Denise O’Sullivan found MF Stephanie Ochs along the right flank, the midfielder picked out Ohai as she ran into the box and beat Spirit GK Kelsey Wys at the near post.
Washington forced two saves out of Henninger prior to the penalty kick. In the 22nd minute Henninger saved Nairn’s shot to the near post and two minutes later she denied Cali Farquharson at the other post.
