Aces, NJ Copa find wins

HOUSTON ACES 1, REAL SALT LAKE WOMEN 0
KAYSVILLE, UT -A second half goal by Paige Hayward lifted the Houston Aces to a 1-0 win over the Real Salt Lake Women at Davis High School Stadium.

Real Salt Lake (0-1) created four quality scoring chances in the first twenty minutes. Forward Madie Lyons almost converted in the 12th minute but it took one of the many solid saves from Houston goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst (five saves) in the first half to keep her shot out.

In the second half, RSLW forward Brecken Mozingo almost poked her shot past Seelhorst in the 54th minute.

Houston (1-1) broke through in the 71st minute. A well-placed cross by Aces defender Shauna Peare found the head of forward Hayward and then the back of the net, slipping by the surging run of Real goalkeeper Rebecca Ritchie (two saves).

The two teams will square off again, this time in Houston on Saturday, June 4th at Houston Sports Park (7:00 PM CST).

NEW JERSEY COPA F.C. 4, NEW YORK MAGIC 0
WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ - New Jersey Copa F.C. rolled to a 4-0 win over the New York Magic at Mercer County Community College on Sunday Afternoon.

Midfielder Alexandra Tinfow scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute on a cross from forward Phoenetia Browne. NJCFC (2-1-1) were awarded a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, but Magic (0-2) goalkeeper Samantha Depken (10 saves) would deny midfielder Jackie Brunoís attempt for her teamís second goal of the match.

Copa got the insurance goal just four minutes later, as forward Krystyna Freda notched her third goal of the season on an assist from Bruno. Midfielder Jenny Bitzer made the score 3-0 for the home side in the 71st minute, scoring on her strike from outside the penalty area. Freda tallied her second goal of the match and fourth of the season in the 84th minute with thanks to midfielder Alexandra Nata.

East Conference Players of the Week
Forward Krystyna Freda came off the bench to score two goals while defender Callie Duliba led the defense to another shutout, as New Jersey Copa FC cruised to a 4-0 win over New York Magic on Sunday, earning the players honors UWS East Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.

Freda added two more goals to her season tally in the 66th and 85th minutes in the win over New York, as her presence made a huge difference for the NJCFC offense. With her four goals scored in four games, she is now tied with UWS league leader Kate Howarth of the New England Mutiny.

In the win over the Magic, Duliba worked very hard to organize the defense that held the Magic to just three shots.

West Conference Players of the Week
With her game winning goal against Real Salt Lake, Houston Aces forward Paige Hayward has been named the UWS West Offensive Player of the Week while her goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst is the Defensive Player of the Week.

Seelhorst overcame a sleepless night and a nightmare of a road trip out to the Salt Lake City-area to join her team for their match vs. the Real Women and didnít show any ill effects. The former Baylor Bear made several big saves in the first half to stave off the RSLW attack and kept the Aces in the game.
