Liguilla semifinals first leg roundup

#4 America 1, #1 Monterrey 0
Oswaldo Martinez scored seconds after the intermission to give Club America a 1-0 win over top seeds Monterrey in Wednesday's Liguilla semifinal first leg match at Estadio Azteca.

Aguilas goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco's strong first-half performance positioned America to snatch the win. He soared to keep a Monterrey free kick out of the net in the early minutes, and palmed Pablo Aguilar's header out of danger in the 32nd.

Martinez scored the game-winner off an assist from Carlos Quintero, who sent a perfect ball into the center of the penalty area. Edwin Cardona came close to leveling the score in the 78th minute, but 'keeper Hugo Gonzalez got his left foot on the ball.

The aggregate-goals series concludes Saturday at Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

#3 Leon 1, #2 Pachuca 1
Second-seeded Pachuca and #3 Leon played to a 1-1 first leg draw in their Liguilla semifinal Thursday at Estadio Nou Camp.

Hirving Lozano staked the Tuzos to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, running onto a ball into the box from Erick Gutierrez. Aldo Rocha equalized for Leon in the 22nd. After forcing a turnover near midfield, Rocha worked a give-and-go with Mauro Boselli and finished with his left foot.

Pachuca netminder Oscar Perez came up with a clutch save on Luis Montes in the 64th minute to preserve the tie, and Franco Jara appeared to have delivered the win to the Tuzos in the 75th, but his goal was called back.

The series concludes Sunday at Estadio Hidalgo.
