SPORTING KANSAS CITY 2, FC DALLAS 0
KANSAS CITY, Kansas--Benny Feilhaber had a goal and an assist as Sporting Kansas City blanked FC Dallas 2-0 Sunday in front of a sellout crowd at Children's Mercy Park.

Lawrence Olum's headed goal, off a Feilhaber free kick in the 43rd minute, snapped a 262-minute scoring drought and gave Sporting (6-8-3, 21 pts) only its second win since May 15.

Two minutes into first-half added time, Feilhaber earned a controversial penalty kick after his back foot was clipped by Atiba Harris at the edge of the penalty area. Feilhaber stepped up and after a stutter step, buried a right-footed shot into the right side of the SKC net, giving the home side a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

That luck was not with the visitors was evident as early as the 15th minute, when an Olum backpass apparently crossed the goal line past unprepared goalkeeper Tim Melia, but Melia swept the ball back into play and no own goal was awarded. Matt Hedges and Fabian Castillo both hit the woodwork for FCD, and either of two plays in which Tesho Akindele was manhandled in the penalty area might have been whistled as penalties on another day.

FCD falls to 8-5-4 (28), but remain second in the MLS West.

NEW YORK RED BULLS 2, SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC 0
HARRISON, NJ--Mike Grella scored both goals as the New York Red Bulls took over second place in the MLS East with a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC Sunday at Red Bull Arena.

Grella struck once in each half to give the Red Bulls (7-7-1, 22 pts) their fourth straight league win. In the 18th minute, Grella snagged the rebound after Sacha Kljestan's curling shot caromed off the right post.

The Red Bulls midfielder completed his brace in the 58th minute. A couple of quick passes, the last a tap by Lloyd Sam, helped set the Glen Cove, N.Y. native loose. As Seattle defender Brad Evans slid and missed the ball, Grella chipped the ball over netminder Stefan Frei into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Red Bulls netminder Luis Robles made three saves to preserve the shutout, the most difficult of which came in the 13th minute, when rookie Jordan Morris got off a sharp header off a Sounders corner kick.

Seattle (3-8-5, 14) remain mired in ninth place in the MLS West.
