FROM PARIS TO BOSTON
Breakers sign French midfielder Karchouni
The Boston Breakers have signed French midfielder Ghoutia Karchouni, the team announced Wednesday.
Karchouni, 21, made 14 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in France’s Feminine Division 1 last season.
“I’m delighted Ghoutia has joined the club,” Breakers coach Matt Beard said. “She is a technically gifted central midfielder with a good range of passing. I’m looking forward seeing her compete in the NWSL.”
The Breakers traded a 2017 second-round pick in the NWSL College Draft to the Chicago Red Stars for an international roster slot for the remainder of the 2016 season.
Karchouni, a Lyon native, played for France’s U-19 and U-17 teams, competing in the UEFA Women’s Championship. She helped France win the 2012-2013 U-19 UEFA Women’s Championship and finished runnerup in the 2011-2012 U-17 UEFA Women’s Championship.
Karchouni played for the France team that won the 2012 U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
“I’m so excited to come to America and play for the Boston Breakers,” Karchouni said. “It’s a new challenge for me, not only as a player, but also as a person, and I needed that. I’m so happy.”
