Breakers send USWNT forward to Red Stars

The Boston Breakers traded forward Stephanie McCaffrey to the Chicago Red Stars in exchange for four draft choices and a 2017 international roster spot, the team announced Friday.

The Breakers will receive the Red Starsí two highest second-round picks, a third-round selection and a fourth-round pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft.

McCaffrey, 23, made 31 appearances (27 starts), totaling three goals and three assists, in two seasons with the Breakers. McCaffrey, a former Boston College star, has not scored in 12 games (10 starts) this season.

"We are thankful to Stephanie for her contributions as a Boston Breaker," Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "Both parties feel the time is right to part ways and we wish Steph the very best in Chicago and her continued career."

The Red Stars selected McCaffrey, who has scored one goal in six appearances with the U.S. Womenís National Team, with the No. 5 overall selection in the 2015 draft, then traded her for the Breakersí No. 9 and No. 11 picks.
