Carli Lloyd scores twice as Breakers' winless streak stretches to four
HOUSTON, Texas -- The Boston Breakers’ winless streak stretched to four games with a 4-1 loss to the Houston Dash before a 6,107 crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium Sunday night.
The Breakers (3-14-2, 11 points) started strong as German forward Eunice Beckman missed just wide off the rebound of a Kyah Simon shot.
But the Dash (6-9-4, 22 points) countered on 11th-minute shots by Carli Lloyd and Kealia Ohai, saved by Jami Kranich, who replaced Libby Stout, injured in warmups, in the starting lineup. The Dash threatened in the 20th minute, Angela Salem clearing an Ohai shot, and in the 23rd minute, Brooke Elby stopping a Denise O’Sullivan attempt. Then, the Breakers Natasha Dowie’s shot from distance was tipped out by Lydia Williams.
The Dash took the lead in the 26th minute as Canadian Janine Beckie finished a pass from Lloyd. Ohai upped the lead to two goals in the 35th minute.
The Breakers cut the deficit on a 76th-minute Elise Krieghoff goal. The play was set up as Kristie Mewis hit the post, defender Cari Roccaro failing to clear. Krieghoff dispossessed Roccaro in front and lifted a left-footer past Williams.
Lloyd scored off an Ohai assist in 78th minute and on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.
