Breakers pick up options for 13

The Boston Breakers have exercised the contract options on 13 players, the team announced Tuesday.

Options for the 2017 season have been picked up for goalkeepers Abby Smith and Libby Stout; defenders Brooke Elby, Kassey Kallman, Kylie Strom and Christen Westphal; midfielders Kristie Mewis, Angela Salem and Louise Schillgard; and forwards Natasha Dowie, Elise Krieghoff, Brittany Ratcliffe and Kyah Simon.

The Breakers declined options on goalkeeper Jami Kranich; defender Rachel Wood; midfielders Sinead Farrelly, Ghoutia Karchouni and Katie Schoepfer; and forward Eunice Beckmann.

Defender Julie King and midfielder Stephanie Verdoia are out of contract and have been extended new offers. The Breakers are in discussions with defender Whitney Engen.
