Breakers set for April match with Sky Blue
The Boston Breakers home-opener will be against Sky Blue FC at Jordan Field on Sunday, April 23, the team announced Tuesday.
Its a great home opener for us, Breakers coach Matt Beard said. Its like a local derby. It was great to see both sets of fans at both games last season, which made for a great atmosphere. The games were entertaining and closely contested, and it will be good for the Boston fans to see the new Breakers team in 2017.
Last season, the Breakers lost to Sky Blue, 1-0, on the road and 3-2 at home. Sky Blue FC leads the NWSL series over the Breakers, 6-2-3, and the overall series (NWSL and WPS combined), 11-4-7. Nine games were decided by one goal and five of the draws were 0-0.
The Breakers open the NWSL season at FC Kansas City Sunday, April 16.
