SHE'S NO. 1
Breakers sign top NWSL College Draft pick Rose Lavelle
The Boston Breakers have signed midfielder Rose Lavelle, the No. 1 pick in the NWSL College Draft, the team announced Monday.
Lavelle, a three-time NSCAA All-America and two-time Big Ten Conference Midfielder of the Year, scored 22 goals in 84 games for the University of Wisconsin.
“Of course selecting Rose at No. 1, we always knew we were going to sign her,” Breakers coach Matt Beard said. “She is a talented footballer with a great future ahead of her.”
Lavelle, 21, a Cincinnati, Ohio, native was named to the U.S. Women’s National Team’s SheBelieves Cup roster. The U.S. will play Germany March 1, England March 5 and France March 7. Lavelle was called into camp with the senior team in December 2015 during the Victory Tour. In 2014, Lavelle was the Golden Ball winner at the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship and played in the 2014 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I’m super excited to join the Breakers,” Lavelle said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to grow as a player in this league, with this coaching staff, and with this team.”
