Revolution's Kamara joining Sierra Leone


FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Revolution forward Kei Kamara has been called in by the Sierra Leone national team for a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Ivory Coast on Saturday.

Kamara, who turns 32 the day of the match, will miss the Revolutionís game against the Colorado Rapids Saturday.

Kamara, who has scored four goals in 16 games with the Revolution since joining the team in a deal with the Columbus Crew in May, last appeared for Sierra Leone in a 0-0 draw with Ivory Coast in an AFCON qualifying match Sept. 6. Kamara, a native of Kenema, Sierra Leone, has earned 24 caps, several as captain, since making his debut for during FIFA World Cup qualification in 2008. Kamara has totaled four goals, the most recent in a 2015 AFCON qualifying match against eventual champions Ivory Coast Sept. 4, 2014.

Sierra Leone (1-1-1, 4 points) ranks second behind Ivory Coast (1-0-2, 5 points) in Group I. Sudan (1-2-1, 4 points) has been eliminated. The group winner advances to the 31st edition of the tournament.
