Revolution adds USF defender Joshua Smith


The New England Revolution selected University of San Francisco defender Joshua Smith in the fourth and final round (75th overall) of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft Tuesday.

Smith, 24, earned second-team All-WCC honors, scoring three goals last season. Smith played two matches before missing the remainder of the 2015 season with an injury, PDL All-Western Conference honors with Burlingame Dragons.

As a junior, Smith scored twice in 16 appearances, earning consecutive All-WCC Honorable Mention for the third year. Smith played for the U.S. U-17 national team and competed for the Karlsruher SC U-17 and U-19 squads. Smith, born in Fort Polk, La., grew up in Germany while his father served in the U.S. Army.
