German federation: Germany to play USA in centennial game on June 2
The German Football Federation on Wednesday announced that its national team will play in the United States in an international friendly on June 2 as part of the Americans' centennial celebration of the founding of its federation.
The German federation made the announcement on its website.
One German blog had the game in Washington, D.C., but that has not been confirmed.
The venues of the game were not announced as was Germany's opponent on May 29, the website reported.
The June 2 confrontation will be a reunion between current and former German national coach Jurgen Klinsmann and current German coach Joachim Loew, who was his assistant at the 2006 World Cup.
"From my experience as a player and manager, I know that such trips for the development of a team are important especially for the young players moving up, are those experiences on another continent, broadening horizons and good prepare for possible international tournaments," German National Team manager Oliver Bierhoff was quoted by the website.
U.S. Soccer did not have a comment as of late Wednesday afternoon.
