Honduras names WCQ roster for U.S.
Honduras named its 23-man roster for its World Cup qualifying match against the United States in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Feb. 6, a team that includes five Major League Soccer players, as well as Roger Espinoza and Maynor Figueora of Wigan Athletic.
Honduran coach Luis Fernando Suarez has called in five MLS players -- defender Víctor Bernardez (San Jose Earthquaes), midfielders Andy Najar (D.C. United), Oscar Boniek García (Houston Dynamo) and Mario Martínez (Seattle Sounders) and Jerry Bengtson (New England Revolution).
Espinoza, who recently moved from Sporting Kansas City to Wigan, and Figueroa, a key defender on the English Premier League club, also were named.
Six players were called in from Honduran club Olimpia -- goalkeepers Noel Valladares and Donis Escober, defenders Bryan Beckeles and Carlos Garcia, midfielder Alex Lopez, who has been rumored joining an MLS side and forward Roger Rojas.
The domestic-based players are set to assemble on Wednesday with the foreign-based players flying in on Monday, Feb. 4.
Los Catrachos lost to host Costa Rica in the Copa Centroamericana final on Sunday, 1-0.
