U.S. Soccer celebrating its 100th birthday in NYC

U.S. Soccer celebrates its 100th birthday on Friday and the organization is commemorating that with several events in New York City this week.

Here's a quick list of events:

At 4 p.m., U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati and U.S. Women's midfielder Carli Lloyd and several other guests will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock EXchange.

In an all-day event, U.S. Soccer will take over Times Square as U.S. men's coach Jurgen Klinsmann, former players Alexi Lalas, Cobi Jones, Walter Bahr, Tab Ramos, Michelle Akers, April Heinrichs, Gulati and Lloyd will help put on a special event for soccer fans.

Fans will be able to take penalty kicks, play small-sided games, make a pledge to the future of U.S. Soccer, meet and share your favorite soccer stories and take pictures with the 1991 and 1999 Women's World Cup trophies.

The event will be held between 45th and 46th Streets on Broadway.

A joint press conference will be held on the steps of City Hall at 8 p.m., commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the federation. Howard Wolfson, the NYC deputy mayor for government affairs and communications, Gulati, Klinsmann, Lalas, Jones, Bahr, Ramos, Akers and Heinrichs will attend.

What makes this event so significant is that City Hall is across the street where the U.S. Soccer charter was signed on April 5, 1913 at the Astor House, a luxury hotel that was located on lower Broadway between Vesey and Barclay Streets.

At 10:15 a.m., the aforementioned U.S. Soccer group will be at the Empire State Building to light the top of the building in red, white and blue to commemorate the 100th anniversary.

And at 12:15 p.m., Lloyd, Akers, Heinrichs, Lalas and Jones will be hanging out at Nevada Smiths to watch the U.S.-Germany women's game.
