CHICAGO -- As one American striker has been forced to sidelines prior to next month's World Cup qualifiers, another is raring to go to prove himself.

As reported Friday, Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey has been sidelined with an irregular heartbeat, which will keep him out of Major League Soccer matches for the time being and the USA's next two matches.

Gyasi Zardes was left off the roster due to an undisclosed injury he suffered in the LA Galaxy's scoreless draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday night.

Toronto fC striker Jozy Altidore, who missed Copa America Centenario in June with a hamstring injury, Sunday was among 26 players named to the U.S. national team for the two qualifiers.

Altidore has scored five goals in his past six matches since returning to the lineup.

The USA roster is similar to the one that saw the U.S. reach the semifinals of Copa as 19 of the 23 players on that roster getting recalls.

"We definitely think that the group that got fourth in the Copa America deserves a certain
priority going on to the next World Cup qualifiers because they did tremendously well in the Copa America," Klinsmann said.

"This is a big stage, and they deserve to come back and confirm what they did in the tournament in these upcoming, very important World Cup qualifiers."

The second-half Americans (2-1-1, 7 points) will play at last-place Saint Vincent & the Grenadines (0-0-4, 0) Friday and host Trinidad & Tobago (3-0-1, 10) in Jacksonville on September 6. The top two Group C teams will advance to the CONCACAF hexagonal, which begins in November.
